Although the name is now used for guitar models of student / beginner quality, this original Fender Starcaster is of classic late 70's American quality.

Made in the USA for only 6 years from 1974 to 1980, the Original Starcaster uses the classic Fender three bolt - bolt on neck. The lack of popularity of the guitar in the late 70's resulted in the guitar being very rare.

The Starcaster had a unique headstock design, that no other Fender guitar has had before or since. It was also unusual for a semi-hollow guitar in having an asymmetrical ("offset") body, a maple fretboard, a bolt-on neck, a novel control configuration consisting of a volume and tone control for each pickup, a master volume control, and Fender's traditional six-on-a-side tuning pegs. The "Fender Wide Range" humbucking pickups were designed by Seth Lover and appeared first on various Telecaster Custom and Telecaster Thinline models in the early '70s. They are still available as reissues, although the construction of the reissued Pickups has significantly changed. Regardless, they are still labeled "Wide Range".

Jonny Greenwood guitarist of Radiohead can frequently be seen playing a Starcaster on stage along with Dave Keuning from the Killers on the album 'Sams Town'

The guitar itself is in very good condition, Its has no fret wear and the fretboard is un-damaged / worn. The guitar looks like it was very rarely played, there is some picking marks on the pick guard and tops of the humbucker pickups but other than that there is no major damage to the body neck or headstock. Some of the chrome peices like the pickups / bridge / machineheads have some dust corrosion that can be removed with some good polish and elbow grease.

The guitar currently has flat wound 'Jazz style' strings on it, but it can be setup before shipping by our master luthier 'Phil Haworth' to a string gauge / type of your preference, which includes intonation, neck adjustment, pickup height and balance, action height and string radius, full polish and cleaning of the electronics.

The guitar comes in its original case with an original fender strap, original tags and owners manual. Absolutely collectors quality instrument.
